Civil Construction Training Yard
• A dedicated civil section outside the warehouse provides real-world experience with:
• Trenching operations over and under existing utility lines
• Backfilling techniques and proper compaction
• Operator training and qualification on excavation equipment
• Spotter and groundman role development
Driver & Equipment Onboarding
• All new hires complete a practical driver evaluation that includes:

Fire Safety & Emergency Response
• Crews participate in hands-on fire suppression training, practicing extinguishment in a controlled burn environment to reinforce emergency readiness.
Orientation & Expectation Setting
• A detailed New Employee Orientation presentation and discussion is held, outlining both Alvah’s core expectations and those of PG&E.
• Each new hire is evaluated while working on:
• Overhead and underground installations
• Civil trenching and utility protection
• Real-time application of skills in a controlled training environment

PG&E representatives are invited to observe, ensuring transparency and trust from day one. Though all workers come through the IBEW, Alvah takes extra steps to embed its strong safety culture at every level, deploying dedicated safety and operational staff for pre-planning on new projects.
