The electric grid demands infrastructure capable of carrying greater loads while remaining dependable across changing terrain, aging systems and increasingly complex project requirements.
MYR Group Inc. has spent more than 130 years working within that environment, developing specialized capabilities across transmission, distribution, substations, energized construction and clean energy. Its experience spans projects from 69kV to 765kV, supported by extensive equipment resources and a workforce structured to handle projects of varied scale and complexity.
Its transmission and distribution capabilities sit within a broader network of 13 electrical contracting companies. The structure gives projects access to local management while allowing MYR Group to draw on equipment, labor and specialized expertise across its network. That combination supports customized project execution without separating field knowledge from the resources available across the wider organization.
Its transmission teams work across different structures, foundations, voltages and terrains, covering new construction as well as upgrades to existing infrastructure. It also has developed capabilities in energized services and high-voltage direct current installations, expanding the range of work it can undertake for utilities and other infrastructure owners.
Distribution work follows a similarly broad model. MYR Group subsidiaries have constructed and maintained thousands of miles of overhead and underground distribution infrastructure, covering new development, repairs and system hardening. Long-term agreements with utilities have also created a framework for recurring construction and maintenance work rather than isolated project engagements.
The depth of this experience is reflected in its scale. MYR Group reported $2.00 billion in 2025 revenue from its Transmission & Distribution segment, up from $1.88 billion in 2024. Distribution revenue increased by $63.2 million while transmission revenue increased by $58.7 million during the year.

Contractor-Led Project Delivery
For complex infrastructure programs, MYR Group applies a contractor-led engineer-procure-construct approach that places it in the role of overall program manager. Its scope can extend from engineering and environmental planning through right-of-way acquisition, procurement, construction and final acceptance. That structure gives clients one coordinating partner across multiple stages of delivery.
Early involvement is central to the model. Through preconstruction services, MYR Group develops conceptual budgets and estimates, conducts constructability reviews and supports engineering and pricing decisions before construction begins. The approach is designed to identify potential issues early, when adjustments can be made without disrupting field execution.
Project controls provide another layer of coordination. Teams establish milestones and reporting procedures, track progress and analyze project information throughout delivery. MYR Group also develops project-specific quality assurance and quality control programs covering training materials, operating instructions, troubleshooting guides and commissioning documentation.
Design-build and integrated project delivery extend that collaborative approach. Early contractor participation allows project teams to address constructability concerns before crews reach the site, while MYR Group says its integrated methods can help minimize change orders and unexpected costs. The result is a delivery model centered on coordination from concept through completion.
Resources Built For Complex Work
Large transmission projects require more than engineering knowledge. They also depend on the right equipment arriving where it is needed. MYR Group maintains more than 8,000 pieces of equipment through centralized fleet management, including specialized transmission equipment such as large pullers, tension machines and setting cranes.
It uses Zonar technology across its fleet to monitor fuel consumption, reduce idle time, provide GPS guidance and support electronic pre-shift inspections. Centralized management also allows equipment to be deployed across the company’s operations and dedicated to long-term contracts when appropriate.
People remain equally central to the delivery model. MYR Group’s subsidiaries employ more than 9,000 people, giving the organization access to a substantial workforce across its U.S. and Canadian operations. That scale combined with local management allows individual projects to retain regional oversight while drawing from broader company resources.
Energized construction demonstrates how that combination translates into a specialized service. Through its Live Line Academy, MYR Group trains experienced journeyman lineworkers in live-line barehand techniques through classroom instruction and controlled field exercises. Certified crews can then perform certain transmission and distribution work without taking lines out of service, reducing the resources required for de-energization and re-energization.
Experience Tested In The Field
The Venice to Campbell 138kV Mississippi River Crossing illustrates the demands MYR Group’s teams are equipped to manage. Completed by subsidiary L.E. Myers in 2018, the project required two 310-foot steel lattice towers, a half-mile river span, ACSR conductor, OPGW shield wires and FAA-mandated lighting. Crews also removed four existing towers and an older line.
The crossing required extensive planning because of its location and construction conditions. MYR Group reported that the team completed 40,439.5 manhours without a safety incident and finished the project on time and on budget. The work later received the National Electrical Contractors Association’s 2019 Project Excellence Award in the overhead transmission category.
Another example comes from Virginia, where L.E. Myers worked on the Mt. Storm to Valley 500kV transmission project. The work involved rebuilding and expanding line capacity through difficult mountain terrain, including mile-long wire pulls across valleys and environmental requirements associated with National Forest property.
MYR Group also brings its network structure to substation projects. Its teams construct high-voltage substations, switching stations and interconnect stations from 34.5kV to 765kV while providing project management, procurement, quality control, testing, commissioning and closeout. A project at the Cabot Station Electric Generating Plant combined crews from two subsidiaries to handle substation and transmission scopes.
A Network Designed for Reliability
MYR Group's approach ultimately connects specialized execution with a broader infrastructure portfolio. Transmission, distribution, substations, emergency restoration, energized services and clean energy capabilities allow it to work across multiple parts of the electrical system. Its clean energy work also includes transmission connections and infrastructure supporting renewable generation and energy storage.
That breadth gives clients access to capabilities that can be assembled around project requirements. A utility upgrading an aging line can draw on transmission construction, fleet resources and preconstruction planning, while a larger program can incorporate engineering, procurement, environmental management and construction under a contractor-led delivery structure.
The same philosophy extends to restoration work. MYR Group subsidiaries have responded to wildfire-related damage by removing compromised distribution infrastructure and replacing equipment needed to restore service. It maintains ongoing utility relationships across the distribution market, supporting construction, repair and system-hardening programs over time.
This combination of longevity, specialized expertise, integrated delivery and field resources explains the significance of its recognition as a Top Transmission and Distribution Company 2026.
