Approximately trillion gallons of untreated stormwater passes through U.S. waterways every year, polluting drinking water supplies and the environment. Compounding the problem, the existing infrastructure is insufficient to manage this effectively. One of Ovivo’s notable offerings is the Silicon Carbide (SiC) membrane technology, which is used in a variety of water and wastewater applications. An improvement over the traditional polymeric membrane used in filtration equipment, the SiC membrane enables easier removal of solids, toxic pollutants, and pathogens, restoring a safe, clean, and sustainable water source. The SiC membrane system has a high affinity for water, allowing it to attract water molecules and repel the more aggressive substances and materials, resulting in higher system performance and longevity when compared to conventional water filtration methods.

Ovivo has also developed SiC membrane-based treatment for wet weather applications. The company’s stormBLOX technology treats variable flows of raw or sewage-mixed rainwater and converts it into safely dischargeable water. This technology is pivotal in improving the wastewater management infrastructure in North America and facilitating clean water for daily use.

Equally interesting is Ovivo’s product offering for conventional, non-membrane based, water and wastewater treatment requirements. This includes inlet screens, primary and secondary clarifiers, biological treatment solutions, tertiary treatment as well as biosolids and biogas handling equipment. Through innovation and acquisitions, Ovivo continues to expand on their technology portfolio and introduce proprietary treatment solutions to the industry.

Additionally, Ovivo develops and provides high performance water treatment technologies to support the manufacturing of semiconductors and other electronic devices, which requires large volumes of ultrapure water. Substantiating the capabilities of Ovivo’s technology is a case study where the company assisted the Calumet Water Reclamation Plant (CWRP). The plant leveraged a tunnel system, established in late 60’s, to collect runoff during storms. The eight-mile-long tunnel between the plant and an open pit mine is used to pump water into the treatment plant. These tunnel is as deep as 390 feet below the surface, which made it difficult to manually clean debris from the water screening bar screens. The Ovivo Deep Clean Trash Rake System was selected to address these challenges. The all-mechanical system with four cables was designed in order to open/close and raise the gripper, almost 400 feet down between 2 different bar screens. The trolly and gripper is designed to run on a 2-way bridge crane system with an advanced control system.

Building on its success and market leadership, Ovivo is dedicated to integrating SiC membrane technology in all existing wastewater treatment systems. To achieve this, Ovivo is planning to build a state-of-the-art facility in the U.S., in Hutto, Texas, to develop the unique patented SiC membranes.
