Meters, a meter interface unit (MIU), extra sensors, and remotely managed variables are the four primary components of AMI, based on the US EPA.
Meters watch the flow of a customer affinity. The MIU gets a hardwired signal from the meter, alters it to a low value, stores it, and wirelessly conveys it to the information management system. Meters are often mechanical or solid-state devices.
These meters are often beneficial with other sensor types, like pressure monitors, temperature sensors, sound sensors, and water-grade monitors. Data is shipped to the information management system and sometimes incorporated into the utility's SCADA system.
The remotely managed valves allow a utility to switch off or on the water supply utilizing an information management system at a customer connection. In line with the EPA, AMI is also a monitoring component as it gives data and warnings that may display system contamination or tampering. Similarly, the meters' data are transmitted to the end-user or customer to give them more details regarding their water intake. With these data sets, utilities may also enhance water conservation messages and emphasize how customers compare to their neighbors.

Smart Meters

Ultrasound meter
